# Position Details
## Job Summary
This position involves being a research assistant on the Dallas Lifespan Brain Study, which investigates functional, structural, and cognitive changes to the aging brain. The person in this position will assist in data collection and data processing of cognitive, MRI and PET scan data. Additional responsibilities include recording performing other routine tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Specific Supervision: RA will perform standard and routine assignments independently to conclusion; unusual problems and exceptions to procedures or processes are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Functions:
1. 40% Testing and Scheduling. RA will assist in the collection of brain imaging data (such as fMRI and PET scans). RA may also administer cognitive testing to older adult participants following a standardized protocol. Interacts with participants for recruitment, screening, scheduling, and payment.
2. 40% Data Entry and Processing. RA will preprocess brain imaging data such as fMRI and PET scans using FreeSurfer and other computer programs such as Python or Matlab. RA will also enter cognitive data into a computerized, web-based database, including checking and monitoring data for errors.
3. 10% Lab Participation. RA will participate in regular lab and RA meetings, and provides input into the logistics of data collection and other research-related issues.
4. 10% Administrative Support. RA will provide administrative support to Dr. Park, the lab director.
## Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in one of the basic sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience in customer service or in daily interactions in a public services environment.
## Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor's degree in Psychology or related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ability to work on a team and communicate effectively is essential. Good organizational skills are desired. Competence with Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills required. Must be very reliable. Must be comfortable interacting with older adults.
Experience: Experience working in a research setting is preferred, experience in Psychology or neuroimaging a plus. Experience working with older adults. Knowledge of techniques and protocols needed for experiments. Experience using Matlab, Python and/or UNIX scripting preferred. Experience with neuroanatomy preferred.
